Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 4, 2026
mq-dir (the desktop application) and mqdir.com (this website) take privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and what we do with it. We collect as little as we can.
The app (mq-dir)
The mq-dir desktop application makes exactly two outbound network requests in its entire lifetime:
- Sparkle update check. Every 24 hours, the app fetches
appcast.xmlfrom this domain to check for new releases. The request includes your IP address, macOS version, and the current mq-dir version as standard HTTP headers. No personal data is transmitted in the request body. - Send Feedback (opt-in). If you click the “Send Feedback” button inside the app, your message and any attachments you choose are sent to a Discord webhook controlled by the developer. This only happens when you press the button. No background telemetry. No usage tracking. No crash reporting.
The app does not collect or transmit:
- File contents, file paths, or any information about your files
- Window layouts, tab contents, search queries, or feature usage
- Crash reports, error logs, or stack traces
- Analytics events, device fingerprints, or persistent identifiers
All app state is stored locally in ~/Library/Application Support/com.mqdir.app/ and never leaves your machine.
The website (mqdir.com)
This website uses two analytics tools to understand aggregate traffic:
- Google Analytics 4: collects standard page view data, device type, country, and referral source. IP addresses are anonymized at collection. Demographic features, advertising signals, and Google Signals are disabled.
- Vercel Analytics: collects page-view and performance metrics. Does not set first-party cookies and does not persist identifiers across sessions.
Both tools collect aggregate data only. We do not sell, rent, or share data with third parties beyond the analytics providers themselves (Google, Vercel). We do not run advertising and do not participate in ad networks.
Cookies
This website does not set first-party cookies. Google Analytics may set its own cookies (_ga, _ga_*) for visitor counting. You can block these in your browser settings or with extensions like uBlock Origin or Privacy Badger. Blocking them does not break the website.
Your rights
If you are in the EU/EEA (GDPR), California (CCPA/CPRA), or Korea (PIPA), you have the right to:
- Request information about any personal data we hold about you (almost certainly none beyond aggregated analytics signals)
- Request deletion of any personal data
- Opt out of analytics tracking using browser settings or extensions
To exercise these rights, open an issue at github.com/h5nam/mq-dir/issues with the label privacy.
Children
mq-dir is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
Updated policies will be posted at mqdir.com/privacy with the “Last updated” date above changed accordingly.
